KnowGately

Give your child YouTube. Keep the algorithm out.

You pick the exact videos. Your child watches them in the KnowGately Kids app — no search, no feed, no recommendations, no comments. The next video does not start on its own.

Works with webpages and PDFs too. Start with one link and a paired child device.

23-second explainer. The video site shown is a simplified illustration; YouTube™ is a trademark of Google LLC.

Three things parents use it for

The material is good. The platform around it is the problem.

Use case 1

One YouTube lesson, without the rabbit hole

Assign the exact video. The Kids app removes access to Shorts, open search, comments, the general feed and unrelated navigation.

  • One parent-selected video
  • No Shorts or open feed
  • No address bar or comments

KnowGately has no ad inventory. YouTube may still serve ads inside its official embedded player.

Use case 2

Learning first, dessert later

Set a daily learning minimum, then let a reward subject unlock when the learning goal is reached.

  • Clear daily goals
  • Rewards stay locked until ready
  • The server checks every rule
Use case 3

A useful webpage, with less advertising noise

Give one approved page. KnowGately keeps navigation within the parent-approved scope and filters obvious advertising requests and labelled ad containers.

  • One approved starting page
  • Obvious ads are reduced
  • Out-of-scope links are blocked

We make a best-effort attempt to reduce advertising without breaking the page or violating provider policies. Some provider content may still appear.

A first lesson, start to finish

Imagine exploring space together. Here is how a resource travels from you to your child.

  1. Prepare

Add your child, pair Kids using a code and create a Space subject. Choose a video about the Moon and a PDF worksheet.

  2. Set the rules

Set a daily goal of 15 minutes. Optionally add a separate reward subject with a chosen cartoon that becomes available after this goal.

  3. Your child explores

Your child opens the assigned video and worksheet in Kids. Selected materials are in one place, with access governed by your rules.

  4. Review activity

Check recorded time and completed materials in your dashboard. Talk about what your child discovered and choose the next topic together.

An illustrative example

What is a reward?

Materials you choose in Kids, such as a cartoon in a separate subject. You can make access depend on learning time in one or more subjects. Rewards are optional.

This example assumes the allowed hours and reward time limit also permit access. A reward does not unlock other apps or the whole device.

Time and completion describe activity in the app. They do not, by themselves, confirm understanding.

What changes compared with opening YouTube in a browser

Kids works on Android and Windows 11. It does not block other apps on the device — that depends on the operating system’s own controls.

What KnowGately controls — and what it does not

Inside the Kids app

  • Choose materials and how far your child can navigate on websites.
  • Set goals, days, hours and time limits.
  • Pause learning on a connected device; remote commands require a connection.

What about the rest of the device?

Installing Kids alone does not block every other app or browser. Whole-device restrictions depend on the operating system and additional setup. Always check the settings on your child’s device.

Who it is for

For parents

Choose the resources your child can use, set learning goals, pair their device, and follow progress from one place.

For teachers and tutors

Prepare a focused set of material for a learner without sending them into an open feed, search page, or unrelated recommendations.

For home education

Organize subjects and resources around your family's rhythm, then see learning time and completion across flexible learning days.

Your family’s data, under your control.

Review or delete family data and disconnect a child device. Read below about privacy and where our safeguards apply.

More about privacy and safeguards

KnowGately is designed around the child-privacy and online-safety principles reflected in COPPA, the GDPR and the EU Digital Services Act. These are ongoing engineering commitments—not a blanket certification.

COPPAGDPR / GDPR-KEU Digital Services Act

An adult is accountable

A verified adult account records versioned consent before a child profile or learning activity can be created. Consent can be withdrawn and paired devices revoked.

Only the data we need

Collection is minimized, private family files stay in EU-hosted storage, and parents can review or permanently delete family data.

No behavioral advertising

KnowGately has no child-facing ad SDK, does not sell child data, and does not profile children for ads or automated decisions. A parent-selected external provider may still show its own permitted content or ads.

Approved content stays bounded

Children open adult-assigned material in the Kids app. Unapproved navigation and external escape paths are blocked; when access is unclear, KnowGately blocks it.

We review these safeguards as laws, platform rules and the product evolve. Current behavior and limitations are documented openly.

Made by a parent, not a content company

KnowGately is built by a one-person studio: a software developer whose own children learn at home. There is no feed to optimise and no ad inventory to sell, so the product only has to do one thing well — keep the child on what you chose. Questions go straight to the person who built it.

Before you begin

Do I have to prepare a new lesson every day?

You do not have to rebuild a set every day. Added materials stay in their subjects. Start with a video you know or your own PDF; you are responsible for choosing the content. Add more materials and adjust the rules later.

Does KnowGately lock the whole phone or computer?

Installing Kids alone does not block every other app or browser. Whole-device restrictions depend on the operating system and additional setup. Always check the settings on your child’s device.

What happens without internet?

Plan for an internet connection: YouTube videos and webpages need it. Do not assume all materials will be available offline. Remote pauses and rule changes cannot reach a disconnected device until it reconnects.

Can I add siblings?

Yes. Each child has a separate profile, materials and rules. A device is paired with one child profile — a shared tablet does not automatically recognise who is using it.
